Bio

Professor of exercise physiology and human performance and director of a molecular exercise physiology lab; co-founder of Absolute Rest. He advises elite athletes across the UFC, NFL, MLB, NBA, and Olympic sport, and translates the science of strength, energy systems, and recovery for a general audience.

Protocol

Train the specific adaptation: organize work into six-to-twelve-week blocks that each target one of the nine physical adaptations — strength, power, hypertrophy, endurance, and so on; heavy resistance work plus zone-2 and high-intensity cardio for a broad aerobic base; protein and creatine as staples; and rigorous, measured sleep as the recovery foundation.

Principles

Precision over generic 'more': define the adaptation you want, train and dose specifically for it, and measure recovery — especially sleep and breathing — instead of guessing.

Preferred brands

Theragun Prime cuts the noise without losing the punch

The mid-tier percussive massage gun that actually delivers. Five speeds, 120-minute battery, and enough amplitude to handle post-workout knots without the Pro's price tag. The dampener attachment targets tender spots near bone; the standard ball works the whole body. Real-time pressure feedback keeps you from over-grinding. Pairs with the Therabody app's AI Coach for guided recovery routines.

Momentous | Creatine Chews 150-Count

Delicious! Easy to take when on the road or at the gym. Five chews a day gets you to 5g, the dose that's actually been studied. Texture is firm and tart, closer to a Sweet Tart than a gummy. I started taking these on travel weeks when I don't want to pack a shaker. Muscle recovery case is the same evidence behind every creatine product and might be good for the brain too!

LMNT Citrus Salt: aggressive sodium dose for post-sweat rehydration without sugar

Each stick pack delivers 1,000 mg sodium, 200 mg potassium, and 60 mg magnesium—a salt-forward ratio designed for active recovery and sauna use. No sugar, no artificial sweeteners, just electrolytes in a ratio the brand spent years validating. One stick dissolves in water; most people find 1–2 packs daily covers their electrolyte gap, though you can dial it up or down depending on sweat rate.

David Bronze Variety Pack: 20g protein, 150 cal, actually tastes like dessert

Eight bars split between Cookie Dough Caramel Chocolate and Peanut Butter Chocolate—engineered for the macro math, not whole-food purists. 20g whey/milk/egg protein per bar, zero sugar, third-party tested. Maltitol sweetener and collagen structure mean it reads more like candy than performance food, which is the point if you're short on protein budget but not calories.
