Bio

Professor of clinical geriatric epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, and leader of the world's first successful dementia-prevention trial. She heads the global World-Wide FINGERS network spanning more than 40 countries.

Protocol

Her landmark FINGER trial showed that a two-year multidomain lifestyle program — nutrition, exercise, cognitive training, and management of vascular risk factors like blood pressure — can protect cognition in at-risk older adults. She built the first midlife dementia-risk score and now runs FINGER-model trials worldwide.

Principles

Dementia is partly preventable — the same modifiable factors that protect the heart protect the brain, and a structured, multidomain lifestyle program can measurably lower the risk of cognitive decline.
