Are you Leonard Guarente? Claim this pageNovartis Professor of Biology at MIT and director of its Glenn Laboratory for the Science of Aging, and co-founder of Elysium Health. His discovery of the SIR2 gene launched the entire field of sirtuin biology.
He was first to identify SIR2 as a gene controlling aging in yeast and to show that sirtuins are NAD+-dependent enzymes — the original link between NAD+ and aging. His work established that the mammalian SIRT1 regulates metabolism and longevity, and that the age-related decline in NAD+ can be countered by precursor supplementation, the basis for Elysium's Basis.
Sirtuins are guardians of the genome powered by NAD+ — keep NAD+ levels youthful and you keep these repair-and-metabolism enzymes working, a strategy to slow the metabolic decline of aging.
