Bio

Professor of genetic epidemiology at King's College London, one of the world's most-cited scientists, and co-founder of the nutrition-science company ZOE. Author of Spoon-Fed and Food for Life; his twin research reframed how diet, the gut microbiome, and individual metabolic responses interact.

Protocol

Eat for the microbiome: 30-plus different plants a week, fermented foods (kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt) daily, plenty of fiber and polyphenols, minimal ultra-processed food, and a longer overnight fast. ZOE's at-home testing personalizes blood-sugar and blood-fat responses so food choices fit the individual.

Principles

Personalized nutrition over one-size-fits-all rules: the same meal spikes different people differently, so feed a diverse gut microbiome and let individual responses — not calorie dogma — guide the plate.

Preferred brands

@zoe (co-founded — gut-microbiome and metabolic-response testing with personalized nutrition)

Host Defense Lion's Mane supports nerve growth and mental clarity without fillers

Host Defense's Lion's Mane capsules are mycelium-based (not just fruiting body powder) and clinically studied for supporting nerve growth factor, mental clarity, and mood. You take 2 capsules daily. The brand emphasizes no fillers—both the mycelium and fermented rice substrate are researched for their own benefits, not just bulk.
