Oral glutathione has poor bioavailability due to rapid degradation by intestinal peptidases, and liposomal encapsulation is proposed to bypass this—but human trials directly comparing liposomal glutathione to standard glutathione or placebo on bioavailability or clinical outcomes remain sparse. Glutathione itself is well-studied as an antioxidant, but most evidence comes from cell and animal models. Oral glutathione (liposomal or not) faces the fundamental challenge that it is a tripeptide and gets cleaved by intestinal proteases; even liposomal delivery has not been rigorously validated in humans to overcome this. Marketing claims often cite in-vitro or animal data without acknowledging the absorption barrier. No large RCT has compared liposomal glutathione to placebo on clinical outcomes (e.g., immune function, detoxification markers, or disease prevention).
