Grass-fed collagen peptides for joints and connective tissue support
Further Food's unflavored collagen peptides deliver 20 grams of grass-fed, pasture-raised collagen per scoop—pure glycine and proline without fillers. Third-party tested, clean ingredient list, dissolves easily into coffee or recipes. Solid baseline for connective tissue support during strength work or pliability protocols.
Evidence
4/5
Multiple RCTs show modest improvements in skin elasticity, hydration, and joint pain, with the strongest evidence in skin outcomes and osteoarthritis. However, effect sizes are small-to-moderate, study populations are often small, and it remains unclear whether oral collagen is superior to equivalent amino-acid mixtures or whole-protein sources. Bioavailability of intact collagen peptides is debated.
Mechanism
Collagen peptides are hydrolyzed collagen proteins broken into small amino-acid chains (primarily glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline). They are proposed to increase circulating amino acids available for collagen synthesis in skin, joints, and connective tissue, and may stimulate fibroblast activity through bioactive dipeptides and tripeptides.

“The purpose of this randomized, placebo-controlled, blind study was to investigate the effects of the drinkable nutraceutical ELASTEN® (QUIRIS Healthcare, Gütersloh, Germany) on skin aging and skin health.”
“Collagen is characterized by its high content of glycine, proline and hydroxyproline, and is found to exert beneficial effects on joint pain related to activity and osteoarthritis.”
Caveats
Most RCTs are small (N=20–70) and some are industry-sponsored. The mechanism of how oral collagen reaches target tissues intact is not fully established—collagen peptides are digested into individual amino acids and dipeptides in the gut, raising questions about whether the benefit is specific to collagen or simply from amino-acid supplementation. Few head-to-head trials compare collagen peptides to equivalent doses of gelatin, whey protein, or glycine + proline. Long-term safety and optimal dosing are understudied.
